Message from Pastor Judy

Ephpahtha Episcopal Church of the Deaf is a congregation of Christian people who are deaf from birth, late-deafened, hard of hearing, and relatives and friends of deaf people. We have a weekly signed celebration of the Holy Eucharist at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 96 Jewett Parkway, Buffalo, New York. Our service is at 10:30 a.m. every Sunday morning, and is folloewd by a coffee and fellowship hour at 11:30 a.m. in Jewett Hall.

The monthly services in Lockport have been suspended until further notice.

Ministry to deaf persons began in the Episcopal Diocese of Western New York in the mid-1800s with a Bible Study at the Church of the Good Shepherd led by a teacher from St. Mary's School for the Deaf in Buffalo. Ephphatha was incorporated in the the mid-1970s under the leadership of The Rev. Alvin Burnworth. Fr. Burnworth continued the missionary work to deaf persons in Western New York began by The Revs William Lange and Thomas Gallaudet.
